Impressions of the 1.1 beta

Postby chip5541 on 23 Apr 2008, 23:39

Big kudos to the developers. This coming along nicely.

[*]Guns overheating. At first I was like what is that ticking noise? Then I realized is was the machine guns cooling down from overheating. This makes a big difference because before I felt the guns were a little overpowered but this helps balance their power out nicely.

[*]Jumps! I like the fact you can't jump far enough at first but once you upgrade speed it make it easier. If at all possible a replay is needed

[*]Destroyed tanks remain on the battlefield. PERFECT! Now only do they remain on the field but you can push the debris with your tank. The way they interact with your tank make them feel like real debris with weight.

[*]Internet code seems pretty solid. My ping was well under 100 paying on a European server.

[*]Maxed out graphics. Looks great. A couple of thing though. No water splash effect from the machine guns being fired at the water. Splash effect from the cannon shell on the water too small. Needs a much bigger splash effect.

[*]Church bell ringing is a nice touch.

[*]Needs people to run around so we can run them over

Very promising game and as it stands now.... fun.

MG is overheating a bit too fast for me, maybe 5-10s it should work. At least you should be able to destroy one tank (100 health) with it when all bullets hit.

I think you would want to be careful with that. If you made it to were the machine guns could deal 100 in damage with full unload then it would negate the purpose to upgrade and reduce the use for the cannon except at long distances.

reduce or eliminate the audio that can be heard by other players when you drop mines.

Introduction of different styled tanks or custom paint jobs.

I think in-game hazards would be a nice touch...
For example explosive barrels with a blast radius or oil slicks that make steering straight difficult (possible secondary weapon like mines, and on a similar topic, ice).
