Installing ZeroBallistics on OpenSUSE 11.2 64bit...

Postby Daqar on 29 Mar 2010, 17:20

Heya,

I'm new to these forums and I'd like to say 'Hi'. I just found this game, which looks very promising to me. So I decided to download it and try it out.

I'm a bit of a n00b I'm afraid, both to this game and to linux. I've downloaded the file zb_beta_v11.tar.bz2 and I have NO clue what to do now.

My system is this
OpenSUSE 11.2 64 bit
Intel Core 2 DuoP8400 @2.26 GHz
4GB RAM
NVidia Geforce 9600M GT, with 512mb Video Memory

I was looking for a sticky with this topic, but I didn't find it. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Best regards,

Daqar

Hi,

you have to unpack the archive, using the following command:
Code: Select all
tar -jxvf zb_beta_v11.tar.bz2

afterwards try to start the "tank" executable.

have fun

I'm very new to OpenSUSE and linux in generel, so I don't know how to 'start' a file. I tried the terminal. It gave me this error:

Code: Select all
jacob@linux-h7fo:~/Games/zb_beta_v11> tank
If 'tank' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
    cnf tank
jacob@linux-h7fo:~/Games/zb_beta_v11>

Hmm...that yields a different error:

Code: Select all
jacob@linux-h7fo:~/Games/zb_beta_v11> ./start_client.sh
./tank.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
jacob@linux-h7fo:~/Games/zb_beta_v11>

you need to have OpenGL graphic drivers installed on your system, to be able to start the game.

for Nvidia graphic cards:
http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA_drivers

if you have an ATI card installed in your computer:
http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_drivers

kind regards

OK, I've installed the appropriate driver, but I still get that error. Do I need to enable openGL or something?

OpenGL should be enabled by default.
Do really get exactly the same error? Try starting as root user.
What graphics card do you have inside your computer?

kind regards,
Michael

OK, running as root did a world of good. The game works now. Just two issues:

I have no sound. I checked the sound device under 'audio'. The list is empty. I don't know what sound device I'm using.

How do I get the screen resolution to be 1440x900 ?

You have to install new OpenAL libraries for your operating system, probably replace the openal libraries that come within the tank game folder.

Daqar

change resolution settings inside config_client.xml
