South Bend, IN - The top-10 ACC showdown at Purcell Pavilion

South Bend, IN - The top-10 ACC showdown at Purcell Pavilion lived up to its billing, and it was Notre Dame -- particularly Jerian Grant -- providing the big plays down the stretch to steal a signature win from Duke. Anthony Zettel Jersey . Grant finished with 23 points, 12 assists and six rebounds as the eighth- ranked Fighting Irish survived a 77-73 nail-biter against the fourth-ranked Blue Devils. Duke led by 10 midway through the second half before the Irish rallied for their fourth comeback victory during a five-game winning streak. Grant was the catalyst, but Notre Dame (20-2, 8-1 ACC) had plenty of contributors. Pat Connaughton chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds, Zach Auguste scored 14 points and Steve Vasturia drained a huge 3-pointer in crunch time. That one absolutely lived up to the hype, said Notre Dame coach Mike Brey. Two really good teams going at it. There was a slight letdown for Duke (17-3, 4-3) following the celebration of Mike Krzyzewskis 1,000th career victory over the weekend, as no one other than Jahlil Okafor made a field goal over the final 12-plus minutes. I thought our guys played winning basketball and obviously they did too, said Krzyzewski. Grant had a great game. Hes a terrific player. Okafor totaled 22 points and 17 rebounds but struggled at the foul line, making just 2-of-7 with two critical misses under three minutes remaining. Vasturias two free throws followed Okafors empty trip to give Notre Dame a 71-70 lead with 2:15 remaining, and after Okafor was short on a strong post move on the left block, Grant calmly dribbled away the shot clock. Tyus Jones nearly stripped the ball away with time winding down, but Grant recovered just in time and sent a contested prayer up at the foul line that found the bottom of the net with 1:07 to go. Dukes Quinn Cook followed with two free throws inside the final minute, and again Grant killed time with what seemed like aimless dribbling. This time, though, he swung the ball to Vasturia for a corner 3-pointer that put the Irish in front 76-72 with 22.9 seconds showing. We has always been the kid that makes the right play, Connaughton said about Grant. Its never about him getting the points, its all about him making the winning play. Grants block of Cook at the other end then helped the Irish seal the impressive win. Midway through the first half, Grant made two 3-pointers -- including one from the inside the shamrock at midcourt -- during a 14-2 run that gave Notre Dame a 25-18 lead. There was a brief scare for Okafor when he grimaced and had his right knee looked at on the bench later in the period. The future NBA lottery pick was quickly cleared and returned with a baseline spin move for a layup that put Duke back in front at 29-28. Cook capped his 13-point first half with a 3-pointer and layup inside the final 90 seconds, and the Blue Devils went into the break with a 39-36 advantage. Cook was 5-for-5 from the field in the first half and 0-for-6 in the second. Twenty-five points were scored before the first media timeout of a fast-paced second half, but when play resumed only the Blue Devils kept their foot on the gas. Jones scored four quick points, Justise Winslow drained a 3-pointer and Okafor slammed home a rebound to suddenly give Duke a 60-51 cushion. Another Okafor bucket inside made it a 10-point game at 65-55, but the Irish fought back with 12 consecutive points to regain the lead. Auguste tied it with a left-handed hook shot in the lane with 7:10 to play, then found a cutting Grant for a layup with a bounce pass the next time down. Okafor ended Dukes drought with consecutive buckets, but the Blue Devils missed their final three shots and went just 4-of-9 from the foul line over the final four-plus minutes. Game Notes Notre Dame is 6-1 in its last seven home games against top-10 teams ... The Irish have won 16 of their last 17 games ... Duke was 3-0 against ranked opponents this season ... Jones and Winslow scored 14 and 13 points, respectively ... This was the first top-10 matchup at Purcell Pavilion since No. 10 Notre Dame defeated No. 4 Pittsburgh on Feb. 9, 2003 ... These programs meet again in Durham on Feb. 7 ... Notre Dame next plays at Pittsburgh, while the Blue Devils have another tough road game at No. 2 Virginia on Saturday. Nick Bellore Jersey . MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez also will attend the session, which was announced Monday. The league has discussed placing its next two expansion teams in Miami and Atlanta. Teez Tabor Jersey . Still, Inter moved one point ahead of Parma in the race for fifth place and the final Europa League spot. Udinese remained 14th, 11 points above the relegation zone. Inter was beaten 2-1 by Atalanta at home on Sunday and has won only seven of 16 matches at the San Siro this season, as the squad seems to still be searching for its identity under new owner Erick Thohir and first-year manager Walter Mazzarri. http://www.officialllionsproshop.com/Youth-Graham-Glasgow-Lions-Jersey/ . -- LeGarrette Blount wasnt satisfied with three short touchdown runs, not against a team coming off the second greatest comeback in playoff history.CALGARY - Bo Levi Mitchell used his legs to get things started and then relied on his arm to lead the Calgary Stampeders to a bounce-back victory. Mitchell ran for an eight-yard touchdown in the first quarter and then threw for three more TDs in the second as the Stamps cruised to a convincing 38-17 win over the expansion Ottawa Redblacks in Saturdays lone CFL game. "It felt good to get out there and put some points on the board," Mitchell said. "It should have been a lot more, 28 points in the first half and then some missed opportunities in the second half." After suffering his first loss as a starting quarterback in Calgarys 25-24 loss to the B.C. Lions on Aug. 1 at home, Mitchell rebounded to complete 26-of-36 passes for 289 yards against the Redblacks. "Bo played well," said Calgary coach and general manager John Hufnagel. "Im sure theres some throws that he wished he had back, but he played 60 minutes of good football and put some points on the board." Jeff Fuller, Marquay McDaniel and Jabari Arthur all caught TD passes for the Stamps (5-1), who moved into a tie with the Edmonton Eskimos atop the CFL West Division standings. "It was good to get going especially on offence," said McDaniel, who finished with nine catches for 117 yards. "We havent been consistent the last few weeks. That was our main focus. As a receiving corps, we feel like its on us to get this offence going." Rene Paredes chipped in with a three field goals, while Rob Maver kicked a single. Former Calgary quarterback Henry Burris threw a touchdown pass to Wallace Miles, while Chevron Walker had a rushing TD for the Redblacks (1-5). Ottawa kicker Brett Maher also had a field goal in the fourth quarter when the score was out of reach. "Im choosing to not consider ourselves like an expansion team," said Ottawa coach Rick Campbell. "I want to win. I think we have some pieces of the puzzle in place here to compete and win some games. Were going to do everything we can to play good guys and put them in the best position we can to have success." Burris, who went 20-for-29 for 281 yards, also threw a pair of interceptions in a losing cause. "Im just ready to start winning period," Burris said. "This would have been a big win especially on the road. Calgary gave us some opportunities. Winning teams take advantage of opportunities. We just found other ways to shoot ourselves in the foot and make it tough on ourselves." The Stamps started their second drive of the game with great field position at the Ottawa 41-yard line thanks to a 52-yard punt return by Jock Sanders. Six plays later, Paredes lined up to kick a 15-yard field goal, but Calgary executed a perfect trick play as Mitchell instead lined up under centre and took a quick snap before running for an eight-yard touchdown. "Its tthe kind of coaching staff we have," Mitchell said. Glover Quin Jersey. "Theyre a go-get-it team. They definitely wanted to say, Hey were on our first drive, lets go get some momentum. The guys made some great blocks, got the hole open for me and we got in." Early in the second quarter, the Stamps extended their lead to 14-0 when Mitchell tossed a 17-yard TD strike to Fuller to cap off a quick four-play, 44-yard drive. The early onslaught continued as defensive back Jamar Wall picked off an errant pass by Burris at midfield to end Ottawas best first-half drive to that point. "Its always nice to have an interception," Wall said. "That was my first one this year. Im pretty excited. Hopefully theres more to come." Nine plays and 60 yards later, McDaniel caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to give Calgary a commanding 21-0 lead. The Redblacks earned a measure of redemption when Jasper Simmons intercepted a pass by Mitchell and ran it back 29 yards deep into Calgary territory. On the next play, Calgary linebacker Keon Raymond was penalized for pass interference on Ottawa receiver Carlton Mitchell as well as objectionable conduct to give Ottawa the ball on the one-yard line. Walker promptly plunged across the goal line to get the Redblacks on the scoreboard. The Stamps answered right back as Anthony Parker returned the kickoff 44 yards before Mitchell engineered a five-play, 51-yard drive that culminated with a 17-yard TD pass to Arthur. The offensive woes for the Redblacks continued early in the third quarter as Burris was picked off by Calgary defensive back Joshua Bell, who ran it back 43 yards to the Ottawa 12-yard line. This time, the Stamps were unable to find the end zone and had to settle for a 12-yard field goal by Paredes. Late in the third quarter, Burris capped off an eight-play, 75-yard drive by tossing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Miles before Maver booted a 53-yard punt single to put Calgary up 32-14. After Maher kicked a 32-yard field goal for Ottawa early in the fourth quarter, Paredes responded by booting field goals from 40 and 30 yards out respectively to round out the scoring. Notes: Calgarys Martell Mallett left the game late in the second quarter with a leg muscle injury and didnt return. The Stamps are already without the services of fellow running backs Jon Cornish and Matt Walker, who are both out with concussions. … Since the start of the 2008 campaign, Calgary has compiled a record of 26-6-1 the week after a loss. The Stamps have never lost more than two games in a row with John Hufnagel serving as coach and general manager. … Calgary defensive lineman Charleston Hughes extended his streak of consecutive games with a sack to six. … The announced attendance at McMahon Stadium was 28,391 although it appeared as though considerably fewer fans were in the stands.
